Darshanam
Pooja & Seva at Mahabaleshwara Temple
At Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple, various daily poojas and rituals are performed according to the Vatulagama tradition, including Tantric practices, Bali (offerings), and Naivedya (sacred food offerings).
During the reign of the Banavasi Kadamba kings, seven Gotras (lineages) with 64 families were brought to Gokarna and assigned different 64 priestly responsibilities (poojas and services) for the deity. To sustain their livelihood, the king granted them land in seven different Malenadu (Western Ghats) regions as Umbali grants (endowments).
As part of this system, the priests continue to distribute the prasadam of Lord Mahabaleshwar twice a year to these regions. In return, the people from these areas contribute grains, offerings, and donations to the temple, ensuring both the temple’s daily expenses and the livelihood of the priests.
Even today, devotees and pilgrims visiting Gokarna perform poojas and various sevas through these seven priestly families. Those who come for seva are provided with accommodation and food, which is managed by these priestly families.
Gokarna Tapovana facilitates both direct and online pooja services for devotees visiting the temple. Accommodation, meals, and arrangements for the poojas are available for those visiting the shrine. Devotees can also book their poojas online through our official website, where they can find details and schedule their visit.
